Ad-Blocking

Ok I have read too many articles about the good and bad of ad-blocking so I am creating this blog just to state my feelings. I have lots of other things to potentially blog about but this is the first one.

The arguments for and against ad-blocking on websites are varied but they generally fall into two categories: for ad-blocking and against ad-blocking.

Ok onto my little rant.

I am 20 years old so I am of the generation that grew up with the internet from when they were young but not when they were a baby. So I've been on the internet for a number of years and in all that time I've noticed a striking trend. Websites think they have the right to assault the viewer's senses with ridiculously large and obtrusive ad's. From the first pop-up's to the days of having to use a pop-up blocker...before they were integrated into every web browser. Let's not forget the myriad of ad's that float from side to side on your screen, to ad's that talk to you about adult website's and penis enlargement pills. What if you have kids and you have your speakers turned up? Why shouldn't you be able to turn up your speakers? Should we really live in fear that these stupid ad's will talk to us?!? How about the pop-up's that are difficult or even impossible to close. You click to close them and more come up, or you are flooded with dialog boxes telling you not to close them. This is a serious distraction, harassment, and annoyance! This is just a quick from memory list of all the annoying ad's I've encountered which brings me to my next point.

You poor poor websites losing so much money from those evil ad-blocking terrorists! God, let's smite them down for the good of America right? Did you ever stop to think that there are people, like me, who are so fed up with the bullshit we have to deal with to just browse the internet in peace that we wanna get back at you! That as the minuscule and quiet voice of the user we really have no way of fighting back against the BS that is the corporate clusterF that the internet is becoming. Apart from not viewing the websites in question what are we to do? The point is that we love said websites and we don't wanna stop viewing them! So why don't you A-holes realize that you are alienating the people that keep you afloat and stop crying about how you're going broke from ad-blockers! Instead of stopping us from viewing the site, why not explore other means of advertising or give us a good reason to take the ad-blockers off? Do you really think once we stop viewing your site that you are gonna generate as many new viewers as the 40% that leaves and then gain more? why make war with your own fans/viewers/users? All I'm saying is we all love the internet and we don't want it to change or go away, so let's find a solution where you guys make some money, and the users don't get treated like idiots.
